Doppel-Ganger Review From Angler's Mail - May 8 2004

ARTIFICIAL baits have been in vogue for some time now and anglers who have had the confidence to experiment with them have reaped some spectacular results. The biggest news last year was not so much in rubber but with the first designer artificial hook baits in the shape of Kryston's revolutionary Doppel-Ganger.

The Doppel-Ganger halibut pellet and sweetcorn were the first artificial baits to feature real pellet and real sweetcorn meal, giving a natural food signal that lasted in water for days. The big news from Bolton , Lancashire-based innovators Kryston Advanced Angling Limited is the soon-to-be-released second generation of Doppel-Ganger that extends the range with hemp and luncheon meat varieties.

As with the originals the second generation stem from the genius of 'mad professor' Harry Haskell and they include a hefty 34 per cent of the real thing to ensure they mimic the precise food signals given off by real hemp and meat. Supplied as a re-usable putty, the new Doppel-Gangers, like the originals, are easily sized and shaped, mould to a hair without the need for a baiting needle and grip and staying put perfectly during casting. They have a stable buoyancy, are tough enough to withstand the pecking of smaller fish and are perfectly coloured.

I've been fortunate to be amongst the first to get hold of the next generation of Kryston Doppel-Ganger and I am very, very impressed. The hemp variety smells just like the real stuff and is perfect for fishing on a short hair as a tare-sized blob over real hemp or with a PVA bag of dried cooked hemp soaked in hemp oil. The meat variety smells of rich, sizzling hot dogs - the barbel just won't know what's hit them!

Expect to find the new varieties on the shelves this summer and remember where you read about them first!
